I definitely agree with all your points, Graham. Granted, the 2nd line now doesn't have a scorer like Hull to pop them in, that's where the benefit of having both Mule and Bert comes in, since both can score (especially given how streaky Bertuzzi was last season, this becomes even more important that there are 2 scorers).

The similarities between all players on all 4 lines is really striking. When looking at now vs then, I would say that the "now" 2nd line has the potential to be better, as Franzen, Flip and Bertuzzi are all more established than Datsyuk and Devereaux were in 2002. However, I think the "then" 3rd line had a little more firepower than the "now" does, but it remains to be seen how Hudler will do in readjusting to the speed of the NHL vs the KHL.

HOW in the devil can OZZIE produce if he dosent even get in a game.
? Howard did great but OZZIE got screwed playing once a month or so. As much as I love BABCOCK I think he was boneheaded in not playing OZZIE a little bit more last year to keep him sharp , I seriously doubt you will see the OZ after his contract expires this year..but he isnt over the hill yet and can be a starting goalie somewhere else for at least 2-3 more years if he wants..I say go OZ !!! and chase the wins record. people tend to overlook his carreer record which is pretty impressive

Ok I am confused by what your saying...Are you for Jimmy being the starting Goalie for the playoffs? Or are you disputing the decision? I am a HUGE fan of OZZI...HUGE. But I love the Red Wings more and Jimmy produced at the end of the RS. Just look at the stats. Yeah we didnt win but still Howard was on fire in the playoffs...And I already know what your going to say about the 1st round...but look hes a rookie. 1st time in the playoffs and he took them to to the 2nd round. BASICALLY BY HIMSELF the dude is going to be a monster next year.

Now on OZZI....Yes he is a playoff goalie I dont dispute that fact...BUT....he isn't producing anymore. I think, personaly, that he is done...he needs to retire he has 3 rings there is nothing else he can do...PLEASE for the love of god do not try and be like Dom. At max he has 1 good year left. He is a great goalie and I love ya to death OZ but produce or retire. and dont you EVER go to the CUNUCKS again...

"We love Stevie, and he’s belonged to Red Wings Nation and to Detroit and to Michigan for the last 27 years. We’ve been spoiled to have him all to ourselves so for long. And now we’re trying to learn how to share"

Very well said. I couldn't have said it better myself. Between your blog and Mitch Album's you totally struck a chord.

I am still in shock but I also know he is doing what is best for him and his family. He needs to start a second chapter in his life. Too bad he had to leave Detroit to do it but there is nothing but respect.

It is still hard to read 27 years... That is a lot of time and I am sure Mike Illitch feels like Stevie left the nest. He has been here for all the major events with his family and watched him grow into the professional he is today.

Good luck Stevie. Detroit will always be your home.

"Will history be made?"

I would love to believe it will. But there was nothing about the game yesterday that gave me any hope that they can come back. Hell, I'll be happy if they just win a game. I do not want them to get swept. Not by the Sharks, and not at home. I just want them to win one game for the home fans.
