Pavel the Spokesman

I stumbled across this amusing little video that Reebok posted to promote their new SmoothFit SelectRide running/training shoe. Reebok has done a number of spots with athletes who endorse Reebok, and we all know that Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk is a Reebok guy–skates, sticks, pants, and apparently now athletic shoes. Here’s the clip of Pav talking about his training:

It gets even better, though. If you go to the website for the shoe you get a lineup of NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL pros, one for each side of the shoe. You can pick matchups and play these awkward little clips of them having “conversations” with each other about the merits of the shoe.

The first one I did was Datsyuk and Martin Brodeur–see it here. I like Pav’s comment about goalies usually falling down in front of him. They managed to show a little bit of his dry sense of humor as well.

I don’t have much of an opinion on the shoe itself, but the site is pretty cheesy, but fun and amusing for a good few minutes. I have to give kudos to Reebok for not being afraid to use a guy with choppy English to promote a product.
